One Day Conference

Our One Day Conference will be held on Saturday 27th September in Newport at the Minster Church of Sts Thomas, in St Thomas' Square. Doors open for registration at 09.30 am; event commences at 10.00 am. With a break for lunch, we intend closing at 4 pm.

Speakers will include:

Mark Earp - anecdotes about Pub life
Tony Bevis - the Pub as a venue for Inquests
Janet Few - 40 Years of Family History (not related to our theme, but to mark our 40th Anniversary as a Society)

We are awaiting a fourth speaker - in  the event that no speaker can be engaged, Geoff Allan will give a presentation on the MURSELL families engaged in the pub trade

Exhibitors will include:

Longley Publications
East Cowes Heritage (Sarah and Davis Burdett)
Friends of Newport and Carisbrooke Cemeteries
Commonwealth War Graves Commission (Gary Newman, local representative)

More details will be published during the next few months as we firm up on arrangements, venue and speakers

The Church cafe will be open for the purchase of light refreshments

There is one disabled parking space nearby (in Town Lane) which can be made avaialble on request (first come basis). The Church is fully DDA compliant. 

For comfort it is suggested that the audience might like to bring cushions as the seating in the church is mainly wooden chairs.

The multi-storey car park (entrance in Pyle Street) is the nearest cheapest parking, although there is on street parking (for a limited time) in the High street and Pyle Street. It is possible to enter St Thomas's Square by car for drop off / pick up.

Newport Bus Station is a few minutes walk away. For any mainland (pedestrian) visitors arriving by ferry, there are frequent bus services from Cowes, East Cowes and Ryde Esplanade.
