Northwood and Gurnard War Memorials

The Northwood and Gurnard War Memorials were placed in six local churches following the end of the First World War.

Six identical plaques were commissioned, naming 48 men from the Parishes of Northwood and Gurnard, who died in the service of their country.

In 2014, a local initiative by a group of Northwood residents gained a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to undertake detailed research on these 48 men, and to publish a book on their findings. Associated with the book and the research, a dedicated website was also created.

Regrettably, due to the death of its creator, this website is no longer available online, so the Isle of Wight Family History Society has recreated the essential content of the website, in particular the biographies of the men who were named.
