MILD, AFFECTIONATE AND BENEVOLENT, PRESERVING, WITH UNOSTENTATIOUS PIETY,
'THE NOISELESS TENOUR OF HER WAY,'
IN THE EXEMPLARY DISCHARGE OF HER RELATIVE DUTIES
AS A DAUGHTER, A WIFE, AND A FRIEND,
SHE LIVED DESERVEDLY BELOVED, AND DIED DEEPLY LAMENTED
BY ALL WHO KNEW HER
HER AFFLICTED HUSBAND ERECTED THIS MONUMENT
TO HER MEMORY
SORROWING, BUT NOT WITHOUT HOPE.

BOCLAND, Maurice
In a Vault near this Place are deposited the Remains of
MAURICE BOCLAND of Knighton Esqr. He was
Second son of MAURICE BOCLAND of Standlinch in the
County of Wilts Esqr. and MABELLA his Wife, Daughter
of Sr ROBERT DILLINGTON of Knighton Bart.
In the Year 1715 he was made a Cornet of Horse, and
Served his KING and Country with great Credit and
distinguished Zeal for the Protestant Succession in the
Illustrious House of Hanover.
In the Year 1747 his long and faithful Services were
rewarded by His Majesty KING GEORGE II with the
Command of the 11th Regiment of Foot and in the Year
1758 he was made a Lieutenant General.
He sat as a Burgess in three several Parliaments, twice for
Yarmouth in the Isle of Wight, and once for Limington.
He was twice married. By his first Wife JANE, daughter
of the Rev Mr FOX of the Kingdom of Ireland he had
five sons and two daughters JANE and LUCY who
alone survived him. JANE married to the Rev Dr BISSET
of Dublin. LUCY married to the Rev Mr ELYOTT of Litchfield
in Hampshire. By his second Wife SOPHIA, Daughter of
Major BISSET of Southampton, he had no issue.
He was born in the Year of our LORD 1695
and died at Knighton the 16th of August 1765
in the 70th Year of his Age.
