IN MEMORY
OF
Lieut. Coll. ROBERT ANWYL,
of Vron, in Merionethshire;
Who, after 32 years of distinguished services (28 of which
he served in the 4th or King's own Regiment)
on his return to his native place,
having resigned the command of the 95th Regt. at Malta,
died at Newport in this Island,
JUNE 27TH 1831, aged 51 Years.
His remains are deposited in a vault within the railing on the
South side of the porch of this Church.

Recorder, and Representative in Parliament of the Borough of Neport
And the last baronet of the Ancient Family of WORSLEY,
in this Island.
He was affectionate, and exemplary in the relations of private Life,
A warm and disinterested Friend,
Engaging in Society, Impartial as a Magistrate,
Unwearied in the Promotion of Public Good.
And constantly, and earnestly devoted to the Interests of his Native Island.
He lived for the Benefit of others
And expired amidst the Sorrows of Thousands
Who followed his remains to the Grave
As a last Proof of their Gratitude and Love.
He died on the 10th of January 1825
In the 38th Year of his Age;
And left to lament his loss, a Widow and three Infant Daughters,
Of whom, the Youngest, ISABELLA, within a few Days after his Interment
Was consigned to her Father's Tomb.

WHO WAS UNFORTUNATELY DROWNED IN THE RIVER HAMBLE ON THE 26TH DAY OF JULY 1814, AGED 22 YEARS.
CALLED TO THE BOSOM OF HIS CREATOR,
WHEN HE HAD JUST ENTERED UPON THE CAREER OF A PROMISING AND USEFUL LIFE
HIS FATE AFFORDS AN IMPRESSIVE EXAMPLE OF THE UNCERTAINTY OF ALL WORLDLY HOPES.
BENEVOLENT, GENEROUS, AND SINCERE,
THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT ADORNED AND THE VIRTUES THAT EXALTED HIS CHARACTER,
ENDEARED HIM ALIKE TO THE AFFECTIONS OF HIS FRIENDS, AND THE HEARTS OF HIS FAMILY.
THE TEARS THAT A WEEPING MULTITUDE SHED OVER HIS GRAVE
WERE A WELL MERITED AND EXPRESSIVE TRIBUTE
TO THE WORTH AND EXCELLENCE OF HIS CHARACTER.
