CDR62 The Electoral Roll for the Isle of Wight (Autumn 1921)
CDR55 The Electoral Roll for the Isle of Wight (Spring 1925)

CDR56 The Electoral Roll for the Isle of Wight (Spring 1933)
CDR59 The Electoral Roll for the Isle of Wight (Spring 1938)
CDR58 The Electoral Roll for the Isle of Wight (Spring 1947)
all published with the permission of The Isle of Wight Record Office.
These are searchable Indexes to, and scanned copies of, the Electoral Rolls compiled in these years for all the Parliamentary and Local Registration Districts
of the Isle of Wight. As such it represents a simple way of finding your ancestors in these years. Women over 30 were allowed to vote from 1920, and those over 21 from 1928, and therefore their names also appear,
together with any adult children also entitled to vote.
The IW Record Office and the IWFHS Resource Centre also have copies of the CDs for reference purposes.
Heritage Digital Archives has permission to continue the scanning process for later Electoral Rolls, and these will be issued in due course.
The price for each of these is GBP10.00 (P&P extra). Note the CDR reference number carefully as the CDs are listed chronologically, not by the CDR number.

January 2009 : New CDs from Heritage Digital Archives
Heritage Digital Archives has issued 2 new CD-ROMs to continue the series of Isle of
Wight indexes, and these can be obtained from
www.parishchest.com/en-gb/dept_424.html under the Compact Disks section.
CDR46 The 1871 National Census for the Isle of Wight, covers piece nos
RG10/1159 to 1172, and is published with the permission of The National
Archives.
Heritage Digital Archives have gone back to the source Enumeration books to make a new
transcription of the returns for the 1871 Census, and has included a
transcript of the Enumeration areas. Despite the inevitable problems of
deciphering some of the handwriting, this is an easy to use listing which
gives the entries both in alphabetical order by surname, and by the
geographical order of the original books. The files on the CD-ROM are fully
searchable PDF files, and Heritage Digital Archives has provided a copy of Adobe Acrobat for
anyone who does not have this.
I found the indexes effortless to search, and a comparison with Ancestry and
FindMyPast to find the difficult foreign surname "de Bussche" resulted in
Ancestry failing to find it - their transcribers had it as "Debussche". As
with any finding aid, you need to go to the original source document to
confirm some information (not all occupations are given in full) but all in
all this is good value for anyone wishing to research Island families
without going to the expense of taking out an Ancestry or FindMyPast
subscription.
The price for CDR46 is GBP14.00 (P&P extra)
Heritage Digital Archives will happily accept any corrections for inclusion in an updated CD which
will be provided in exchange for the original disc - he expects a new issue
to be made in about a year's time, at a cost of GBP4.00.
CDR48 Whippingham IW Rate Book 1845 - 1848
This index covers the entries for ratepayers in the Whippingham area and,
starting with HM Queen Victoria herself, lists all the Owners and Occupiers
liable to pay Rates in this period. These are of course Heads of Household
only, with no family members shown. As such it provides a source of
information midway between the 1841 and 1851 Censuses and would be useful to
anyone who has "lost" an ancestor in this period. As with CDR46, the files
are searchable PDF, and a copy of Adobe Acrobat is also provided.
The price for CDR48 is GBP10.00 (P&P extra)
